Haematology

(Haematology, also spelled hematology, is the branch of medicine concerned with the study of the cause, prognosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases related to blood.)

Yolande Conradie

Yolande originally came from a busy, two-technician human laboratory in Grahamstown, South Africa. In 1998 she relocated to New Zealand and her first kiwi position was with the famous Ruakura Animal Health Laboratory in Hamilton. Her primary focus was in haematology and chemistry at the time. Over time, she shifted from the Ruakura lab to Gribble and NZVP. At NZVP she specialized more in haematology and later became the Quality Manager in 2009. In 2016, she joined SVS Laboratories, ready for a new challenge. At the end of her day, she get to head home and spend time with her two adorable cats that love to talk to her and tell her all about their day.

 

Wendy Palmer

Wendy completed her Bachelor of Science prior to obtaining her Certificate in Veterinary Nursing. After finishing her training in 2002, she took a job in veterinary diagnostics. While she initially started in microbiology and serology, she diversified into haematology. She joined SVS Labs in mid-2016 as one of the original staff members. In her spare time, Wendy loves exploring nature with her husband and two children. She also keeps fit playing sports and competing in squash during the winter and tennis in the summer. The newest member of her family is a mischievous, and cuddly kitten named Penny.

 

Desma Cook

Desma trained at the Waikato Hospital Laboratory, working there for 8 years before leaving to do her big O. E. Here she met her husband and they came back to settle in NZ. She worked at Hamilton Medical Laboratories before having a break from work for some years while her children were young and helped her husband in his business venture. For the last 13 years she has been working in veterinary labs in Hamilton and commenced work with SVS labs in November 2019. She specializes in Haematology which she enjoys immensely. Desma spends her spare time walking, cycling, reading, quilting and travelling when the opportunity arises.
