Chemistry, Trace Elements and Toxicology

(Chemistry is the branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed; the investigation of their properties and the ways in which they interact, combine, and change; and the use of these processes to form new substances.)

Tim Adam

Tim is an experienced biochemistry technician who joined SVS Labs as one of the original staff members that helped to set up the diagnostic laboratory. Prior to this he worked in hospital laboratories and NZVP, in its early days.  Tim has extensive IT knowledge and is our go-to person for computer and software matters.  He is also the knowledgeable and friendly voice that is often at the end of the phone when you call. In his free time, Tim enjoys fishing and watching the horse races.


Shania Hix

Shania joined SVS Labs in late 2018 for her work experience during her last year of her Bachelor of Science (Technology) degree. She loves working in the diagnostic laboratory setting and has a keen interest in biotechnology.  When she is not working hard, she loves walking her dog Daisy, a miniature Schnauzer, going to the beach and tramping up Mount Maunganui or the Hakarimata Summit trail.


Rina McCarthy

Rina joined SVS Labs in late 2017, bringing over a decade of work experience in veterinary diagnostic labs including NZVP/Idexx and Gribbles. She is a master at collecting aqueous humour from eyes and she runs many of our endocrinology assays. Rina sport of choice is Roller Derby. She is also a multi-year winner for the best team costume for the Spookers Run For Your Freakn Life zombie run. Rina also enjoys heavy metal music and travelling and spending time with her family, including bearded border collie cross, Daisy.
